What to anticipate at New York Trend Week in Fall 2021

For the second time, New York Fashion Week will take place largely virtually in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

As in the spring 2021 season, many American fashion designers are debuting their fall collections via livestreams, lookbooks, presentations and other digital means, a stark contrast to the large-scale personal productions that were the norm before the pandemic.

Similar to last season, the New York Fashion Week schedule, which the Council of Fashion Designers of America has renamed the American Collections Calendar, runs for four days, with designers posting their fall 2021 collections on the CFDA’s Runway360 digital platform.

When does New York Fashion Week fall in fall 2021?

The shortened New York Fashion Week schedule runs February 14-17, according to the American Collections Calendar published by the CFDA.

Why was the New York Fashion Week schedule renamed?

CFDA Chairman Tom Ford renamed the official New York Fashion Week schedule the American Collections Calendar to reflect the growing number of American designers exhibited later in the season or in locations outside of New York.

Which fashion designers are showing during New York Fashion Week in fall 2021?

New York Fashion Week begins with Jason Wu on February 14th at 5 p.m. It ends with Tom Ford on February 17th at 7pm

The fashion designers and brands presenting their fall 2021 collections also include Veronica Beard, Alice + Olivia, Markarian, Tadashi Shoji, Badgley Mischka, Anna Sui, Monse, Adeam, Victor Glemaud, Rodarte, Tanya Taylor, Anne Klein, Dennis Basso and Cinq à Sept. Jonathan Simkhai, Bibhu Mohapatra, Nicole Miller, Rebecca Minkoff and Christian Cowan.

Which designers will not be shown during New York Fashion Week in Fall 2021?

Many fashion designers who did not present their spring 2021 collections in the previous fashion week are skipping this season again. The list of designers not attending Fashion Week includes Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Brandon Maxwell, Tommy Hilfiger, Christopher John Rogers, Pyer Moss, and Tory Burch.

Do fashion designers show outside of New York Fashion Week?

Several fashion designers have decided to show their Fall 2021 collections before and after New York Fashion Week.

Zero + Maria Cornejo presented his collection on February 4th, Kozaburo on February 10th and Prabal Gurung on February 11th. Ulla Johnson plans to show her collection on February 12th, R13 shows on February 13th. February to see Christian Siriano on February 25th, Oscar de la Renta on March 2nd, Thom Browne on March 5th. Altuzarra on March 6th, LaQuan Smith on March 9th and Jonathan Cohen on April 15th.

Which designers do personal fashion shows?

Jason Wu and Rebecca Minkoff are the only fashion designers who host personal, socially distant fashion shows.

Wu will show his collection to a socially distant audience on February 14 by appointment. His fashion show is produced by IMG Focus, IMG’s own production division. The fashion show will be broadcast live on nyfw.com.

Minkoff will be showing her collection on February 16th from 12.30pm to 2.30pm on Spring Studios Terrace. The venue will limit capacity to 16 guests at a time who will need to check temperatures and require face masks.

Where can I see the New York Fashion Week runway shows in Fall 2021?

Most designers present their collections in digital formats such as live streams, lookbooks or other virtual content. The presentations can be viewed on Runway360, the CFDA’s digital platform that launched it last week of fashion. Some shows are also streamed on nyfw.com and through each designer’s social media accounts.

Will there be a New York Men’s Day?

New York Men’s Day is back on February 15th from 12pm to 2pm. Designers present men’s and gender fluid collections. Participating designers include A. Potts, Carter Young, Chelsea Grays, Federico Cina, Ka Wa Key, Onyrmrk, Stan, Teddy Vonranson, The Stolen Garment and Timo Weiland.

Each designer is given a 10-minute time slot in which their presentations appear on Runway360.

How will the Black in Fashion Council be involved?

IMG continues to expand its alliance with the Black in Fashion Council by supporting black fashion designers during New York Fashion Week. The two organizations are setting up showrooms in New York City and Los Angeles to showcase designs by black fashion designers, which can be viewed in person during the entire fashion week by appointment.

Brands featured in the showrooms include Beads Byaree, Chelsea Paris, Chuks Collins, EDAS, House of Aama, Kendra DuPlantier, Maris Wilson, Michel Men, Nicole Benefield, Third Crown, Theophilio and Whensmokeclears.

What is TikTok Fashion Month?

TikTok is hosting its second TikTok Fashion Month this season, this time in collaboration with IMG Fashion to bring editorial content to the TikTok community. The initiative will run through the New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks, where TikTok users can watch live fashion shows and pre-recorded videos on TikTok’s @FashionWeek, @NYFW and @MADE accounts.
