Walgreens get COVID vaccine in New York, however do not say the place | Public Service Information

SARANAC LAKE – Walgreens and CVS partner with other drugstore chains to offer COVID-19 vaccines to people over 65 in New York State. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a chance at your local business.

Walgreens, which has many locations in upstairs New York, won’t say if it will offer the vaccines to any of them.

National drugstore chains recently received permission from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Health and Human Services to expand vaccine supplies, and New York is one of the area that is being added. The supply of both chains is limited by the number of vaccine doses available to them.

A sign on the front door of Saranac Lake Walgreens said on Thursday, “Vaccine Not Yet Available.” Inside, pharmacist Heather Damour said the store doesn’t have vaccines and doesn’t know when to get them. A store manager said the Saranac Lake site had not yet been selected to receive vaccines.

Walgreens does not currently provide a business list for vaccine availability, company spokesman Campbell O’Connor told Enterprise on Thursday. When asked which regions of New York are included and whether the North Country would be included, he said, “That’s all we can share now.”

According to the Walgreens website, 107 New York stores would receive a total of 10,700 cans, plus 18,600 cans in another 187 stores in New York City. Unlike CVS, the Walgreens website doesn’t state which stores or parts of New York may receive vaccines.

Walgreens has stores in Watertown, Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Malone, Potsdam, Canton, Ogdensburg, Carthage, and Boonville. It recently closed its shop in Tupper Lake.

According to the company’s website, CVS locations in Watertown and Plattsburgh don’t currently offer COVID vaccines. The closest CVS locations are in Queensbury and Hudson Falls, but all 27 stores selling vaccines were fully booked as of Thursday afternoon.

For both chains, you can’t go to a store and sign up for a vaccine. For Walgreens, you must register online at walgreens.com/schedulevaccine. For CVS, do this at www.cvs.com/immunizations/covid-19-vaccine or, if you don’t have internet access, call 800-746-7287.

When you call a Walgreens store, you get an automated computer voice instead of an employee to answer questions. However, when you ask if, for example, Lake Placid Walgreens contains COVID-19 vaccines, the voice doesn’t answer that question. Instead, find out about the eligibility requirements and how to register on the company’s website.

Kinney Drugs, based in Governor, was until now the only pharmacy allowed to offer COVID-19 vaccines in the north of the country. It also has an automated phone service that picks up when you call one of its stores. If you’re calling about a COVID vaccine, press 7 to connect to a hotline where a customer service representative can answer questions and make appointments. When you call about other matters, press other keys to get transferred to the store staff.

Like Walgreens and CVS, Kinney is asking people not to go to stores to arrange vaccinations. Instead, they should do so through the kinneydrugs.com website or, if they cannot get online, the telephone helpline, which can be reached by calling one of the stores.

When making a vaccine appointment through Kinney, there may be long waiting times at your local store due to limited availability. However, you have an option to check out other Kinney stores to see if any of them can get you an appointment sooner.

If a pharmacy’s vaccination appointments are fully booked, people are asked to be patient and try again later.
