The New York Bar Affiliation is contemplating revoking Rudy Giuliani’s membership for violent and false rhetoric of election fraud
Former New York City Mayor and current Trump henchman Rudy Giuliani – the guy people keep telling me isn’t the real inspiration for Batman’s Penguin, but I’m pretty sure they’re wrong – was on because of his role the spread of fictitious election fraud in the 2020 elections under fire at Trump-Aganda. It is widely believed that the post-election campaign for the post-election campaign to spread his delusions across the country led to the Capitol attack. The New York State Bar Association announced Monday that it plans to launch an investigation into one of Trump’s most notorious creators and decide whether to revoke Giuliani’s membership.
Giuliani – accompanied by sentient teeth and runaway hair dye – was Trump’s personal attorney, a relentless dealer in Trump’s false electoral fraud claims, and the leading pusher of doomed lawsuits aimed at dismissing the election results.
The advocacy group said in a statement that the blame for the uprising of thousands of the president’s supporters “lies primarily with” Trump, who continued to make false claims about his loss of election to President-elect Joe Biden.
“But the president did not act alone,” said the bar association.
“Hours before the angry mob stormed the Capitol walls, Trump’s personal attorney Rudolph Giuliani spoke to thousands of people in the White House and reiterated baseless claims of widespread election fraud in the presidential and Senate runoffs in Georgia.”
At the rally near the White House just before the uprising, Giuliani had said: “If we are wrong we will be fooled, but if we are right many of them will go to jail.”
“Let’s go to court,” said Giuliani, former New York City Mayor, former US attorney for Manhattan and former chief justice officer.
The story goes on
Trial by struggle? Either Giuliani saw too much Game of Thrones that day, or the commander with the rotting teeth advocated violence on behalf of the ousted president.
Now, the NYSBA is a voluntary membership group of New York-based attorneys and law students, and not the same body that actually grants and revokes licenses to practice the law. So whether or not Giuliani is excluded is not up to the group to decide. As CNBC noted, only the Appeals Board of the New York Court System’s Appeals Board can rule that Giuliani can no longer exercise any rights in the state.
Nonetheless, the group noted in a statement that its bylaws clarified that “no person who violently advocates the overthrow of the United States government or any state, territory, or possession thereof, or any political subdivision therein, or any other illegal means, must be a member of the association. “
“We cannot stand idly by and let those who want to tear apart the fabric of our democracy remain uncontrolled,” said the group. “Mr. Giuliani will have due process and the opportunity – if he so wishes – to explain and defend his words and actions.”
To be fair, if Giuliani had a real hand planning the attack on the U.S. Capitol, it would have been the Four Seasons Landscaping fiasco again, and the MAGA crowd would have stormed a random Capital One bank. All jokes aside, according to NYSBA, it will be the first time in well over 100 years that memberships have been revoked from those who have not been disfellowshipped.
“We believe the last time we removed a member who was not disfellowshipped was in 1904,” Susan DeSantis, a spokeswoman for the association, told NBC News. “We have our current statutes which have included the member removal process since the 1970s, and we have never used them to remove an attorney who has not yet been expelled.”
Basically, another of Trump’s henchmen could be making history for all the wrong reasons. Sad.
