Pizza critics beat up Connecticut for making an attempt to turn out to be the cake state: “New York is the pizza capital”
Connecticut should stick to lobster rolls and leave the pizza to the New Yorkers – or at least, so are critics outside of the state saying it after Constitutional lawmakers made a cheeky claim to make pizza an official state meal.
When it comes to which state makes the best pizza, New York-based restaurant consultant Jason Kaplan, owner of JK Consulting, told Fox News that “it’s definitely not Connecticut,” in response to the New York one Haven resident Rep. Patricia Dillon and Sen. Gary Winfields bill to make it the pie state.

“New York is the pizza capital,” claimed Kaplan, citing Lombardi’s Neapolitan thin-crust pizza, considered America’s first pizzeria.
He is not alone.

“The only other state that can eat pizza is New York. Connecticut has to sit down,” wrote a Twitter user in response to the proposed bill.
But that’s just a twitter user. On the other hand, the official New Jersey state Twitter account also felt the need to comment on the Connecticut pizza fishing news to become its state food. Your answer? “No.”

Connecticut pizza is typically known for its thin crust pizza that comes from a charcoal oven. Most of its famous and oldest establishments are in New Haven, including Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, which has been serving slices since 1925; Modern Apizza (founded in 1934); and Sallys Apizza (founded 1938). Another Connecticut pizzeria, Mystic Pizza, was the center of the 1988 rom-com of the same name, in which Julia Roberts appeared as a waitress in the now 47-year-old pizzeria in Mystic, Conn.
No matter what the critics say, Dillon told the Hartford Courant that Connecticut can keep up.

“For one thing, our pizza is great. For another, in some states you can buy pizza at chain restaurants, but the Connecticut pizza is typically family-run, family-owned, it has its own identity. Others, however, had a more diplomatic answer.
“Not my style, but I respect it,” wrote a commenter on Twitter.
