Officers say three troopers had been killed in Mendon after the New York Nationwide Guard helicopter crashed
MENDON, New York (WABC) – According to official data, several soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash in New York state on Wednesday.
A New York National Guard UH-60 medical evacuation helicopter carrying three soldiers crashed in an open field near West Bloomfield Road in Mendon, New York, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s office.
MCSO has confirmed that a military helicopter with presumably 3 souls on board has crashed in a field on W. Bloomfield Road. In Mendon at 6:32 p.m. W. Bloomfield rd.Btwn Cheese Factory & Boughton Hill Rd. Remains closed. Grateful for our first aid partner:

Monroe County officials said they received calls for a plane in distress around 6:30 p.m.
Rescue teams found a New York National Guard Blackhawk below. They say the plane was completely on fire when the crews arrived on site.
Officials say the three soldiers believed to be members of the New York National Guard were killed.
The New York National Guard is on their way to the scene to investigate. The FAA will also investigate the incident.
According to 911 reports, officials say the plane was flying very low and there were reports that the engine was stuttering.
Officials say there is rubble the size of several city blocks
According to the New York National Guard, the helicopter was in the Army Aviation Support Facility at Rochester International Airport and crashed during a routine training mission.
They are working to identify the soldiers who were on board.

The aircraft was assigned to the C Company of the 1st Battalion.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he was devastated by the crash and will raise flags on all state buildings to cut them to half the staff on Thursday.
Tonight we are devastated by the crash of a New York Army National Guard helicopter in the city of Mendon, killing three of New York’s bravest people during a training mission.
I am ordering that the flags of all state buildings be lowered to half the staff tomorrow.

West Bloomfield Road between Cheese Factory Road and Boughton Hill Road was closed during the investigation.
