Not Priyanka Chopra, but THAT person called the actress’ New York restaurant “SONA”.

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently announced her own restaurant in New York, serving Indian cuisine for foodies. The actress said she put her love for Indian food into this restaurant and named it SONA.

Priyanka’s latest venture is a partnership with close friend Maneesh Goyal, a Manhattan-based entrepreneur.

And now that the doors to the restaurant are open to the public, a detailed look at the menu has arrived. It contains well-known foods like Dahi Kachori, Kulcha, and Kofta Korma, but also some unusual ones like Crab Puri and Caviar-Priyanka’s favorite.

Other menu items include Buckwheat Bhel, Floyd’s Goan Fish Curry and India House Butter Chicken.

In a recent interview with Vogue, Chef Hari Nayak announced that he made sure that Nick Jonas’ favorite Gajar Halwa is on the menu. He also mentioned that it was Priyanka’s idea to add “Golgappa shots” to the menu. He said, “Priyanka did several tastings with us. Golgappa Shots was her idea; it’s her way of starting the party.”

During his interaction, Nayak announced that the name of the restaurant “SONA” was the brainchild of Priyanka’s husband, Nick. “We wanted something Indian that was easy to pronounce, spell, and of course Google,” SONA co-owner Maneesh K Goyal told Vogue.

Jonas suggested the name during a tasting with his brothers in Goyal’s apartment. “We were all like, what? How do you even know that word?”

Apparently Nick learned the meaning of the word during his wedding. “By the end of that night we had already emailed the trademark attorneys!”

During his conversation, Goyal added, “I want to show people how glamorous Indian food can be. And I want to be a place where people from India can feel: Wow, someone got it right.”

Earlier this week, several guests such as Priyanka’s sister-in-law Danielle Jonas, actor Michael Park and others visited the restaurant and exchanged pictures that revealed other menu items such as mango passion sorbet, Sona chocolate cakes and Cheddar Dosa with turmeric edamame porridge.

Priyanka had revealed details about ‘SONA’ in early March. The description on the website reads: “SONA re-introduces the wonders of Indian cuisine in a space reminiscent of a bygone era of a boisterous yet elegant India – all in the heart of New York City.” Interestingly, ‘SONA’ also has a ‘private dining room’ called Mimi, which is Priyanka’s nickname.

On the labor front, Priyanka can be seen in the recently released digital film “The White Tiger”. Directed by Ramin Bahrani, the actress can be seen alongside Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav.
