EU bars US vacationers, New York restricts Californian guests – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Tuesday was a bad day for anyone looking to travel outside of the state or country during the July 4th holiday week.

First, the European Union banned all US travelers from traveling to continental Europe for at least the next 14 days as COVID-19 cases across America suddenly increased.

Then New York Governor Andrew Cuomo went on Twitter to announce that California is one of the states where its health officials are required to conduct a 14-day quarantine when their residents visit.

If you are traveling to New York from the following states, you must self-quarantine for 14 days.

The states are: AL, AR, AZ, CA, FL, GA, IA, ID, LA, MS, NC, NV, SC, TN, TX, UT.

California on the New York quarantine list included: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.

“As more states across the country battle significant community expansion, New York is taking steps to maintain the precarious security of its gradual, data-driven reopening,” said Cuomo. “We set metrics for community prevalence, just as we set metrics for everything the state is doing to fight COVID-19, and eight more states have achieved the dispersion needed to become New York’s To Qualify Travel Advice, Which Means We Are Going To Do It Now Individuals traveling to New York from these states will need to be quarantined for 14 days. “

So welcome back yard stay on July 4th.

If your plans were for a trip even further afield, the European Union announced on Tuesday that it would keep borders in continental Europe closed to US travelers for at least 14 days as the number of new coronavirus cases has risen.

SFO officials announced last week that United Airlines, British Airways and Lufthansa resumed all flights to and from Europe in June after having suspended travel since March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This is now likely to be just a return flight for citizens of the European Union.

“We saw that many services were restored. Non-stop service to London, various cities in Germany, destinations in Asia. We expect more in July, but this decision will obviously limit what type of passengers are allowed to board these planes. That will limit the airlines’ decision to increase in the future, and that’s unfortunate, “said Doug Yakel, spokesman for the OFS.

Flights to Asian destinations will not be affected by the announcement on Tuesday. It will also not affect travel to the UK, which has left the European Union.

It is estimated that more than 15 million Americans travel to Europe each year, while around 10 million Europeans travel across the Atlantic.

Along the Embarcadero in San Francisco, people didn’t seem surprised by the EU ban.

“The European Union is doing much, much better. You have a fifth, a fifth of our cases. Why should we contaminate them when they are doing so well? Everyone worked so hard there to keep the infection low. We’re not doing well in the US so we have to be responsible, ”said Lily Hilton from San Francisco.

Citizens from the following countries are allowed to enter the 27 EU members and four other nations of Europe’s visa-free Schengen travel zone: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.

The EU said China is “subject to reciprocity,” which means that it must lift all restrictions on European citizens entering China before allowing Chinese citizens to enter.
