Casa Blanca is a brand new app that is for New York properties like Hummel
Finding your dream home in a big city can be a long and complicated process. Just ask anyone who has been looking for a New York City apartment about their experience and they will likely have a horror story or two. To make the house search easier and more personal, a new real estate app called Casa Blanca is being launched today. It uses matchmaking technology powered by swiping left or right – basically it’s like Bumble for real estate.
Casa Blanca is owned and run by women (14 of the 15 employees are women). It’s designed to take your personal preferences into account and find your perfect property match. So before you see entries, start with a style quiz. After presenting filters common in other real estate apps (neighborhood, budget and number of rooms, etc.), the quiz shows a Pinterest-like photo series of living spaces and prompts you to pick your favorite styles. In addition to your design preferences, the app also wants to know something about your lifestyle: Do you have children? Pets? Do you like the night life? How about cooking and going to parks? Finally, you will be asked to rank the amenities in order of importance. The list includes everything from a doorman to a super closet to a dishwasher.
Casa Blanca CEO and Founder Hannah Bomze
“I think we’re a lot more thoughtful about what people actually want from their homes,” said Hannah Bomze, CEO and founder of Casa Blanca, who received her first real estate license when she was only 18, told House Beautiful. “We’re not wasting their time on things that don’t go well together and making it a more interesting and engaging process overall.” Before founding Casa Blanca, she worked at Compass and Douglas Elliman Real Estate. She saw firsthand the role technology has played in buying and renting homes in New York.
“From a design point of view, the app also has a really nice aesthetic to actually experience the property,” says Bomze. After the style quiz, for example, the app shows each match from the list with a full screen.
The app not only offers appealing graphics, but is also very intuitive. Just swipe down to see the full details of a list. Don’t like the listing? Swipe left and you’ll never see it again. If you’re interested in an entry, swipe right to save it automatically. You can easily access all of your storage entries in the lower right corner of the app. “As you keep swiping, the app gets to know you more and more,” says Bomze.
If you want to view a list, you can schedule a meeting with the push of a button and will be matched with a Casa Blanca agent who will guide you through the rest of the buying or renting process. A notable advantage of using Casa Blanca is the non-traditional commission structure: the app cuts out the middleman and offers buyers one percent cashback on their final purchase price.
While Casa Blanca is currently only available in New York City, Bomze hopes to expand the app to the Hamptons, Aspen, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and a few other major cities in the future.
