Blood donor needed: ConnectLife with severe blood shortage in West New York

BUFFALO, NY – The city of Buffalo urges western New Yorkers to roll up their sleeves and donate blood if they can.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown says ConnectLife is facing severe blood shortage.

ConnectLife supplies blood products to local trauma centers such as Oishei Children’s Hospital and ECMC and is the “primary supplier of blood products to over 70 percent of West New York,” according to Brown.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, around 1,000 ConnectLife blood donation drives have been canceled while “hospital use of blood” continues to increase. According to Brown, local hospitals have consistently dealt with a blood supply of less than three days. This includes all blood types.

Brown urges western New Yorkers to make an appointment or donate blood in the next week. To find the donation website closest to you, call ConnectLife at (716) 529-4270 or visit www.ConnectLifeGiveBlood.org.

In March, everyone who donates blood with ConnectLife will receive a voucher for a free Paula donut.
